Dads Question of the Week

What is the greatest tool ever invented?

Posted 2:09 AM by

We've all heard the comment "that _________ is the best thing since sliced bread." In your opinion, and excluding sliced bread, what invention do you feel has contributed the most to man's arsenal of tools? Is it the Garden Weasel? The flathead screwdriver? The  hammer drill?

And since this is a dads website, feel free to throw in any experiences you've had teaching your kids how to use different tools.

3 words: NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS!From pulling teeth, fixing necklaces, and so much more, they are the answer to everything! I have even been known to carry them in my purse! Long ones, short ones, curved ones. With a good set of needle nose pliers and a roll of duct tape, you can rule the world! :-)

The true answer is the hand, since that has done more for all of us than anything. However, for man-made tools, I would have to go with the cordless electric drill. It just feel cool to hold.

To piggyback off John, the opposable thumb. Makes holding tools much easier. Actual tool, I have to go with Duct Tape. Entire books have been dedicated to the wonders of Duct Tape. Any Mythbuster fans out there? It can stop a speeding car, lift a car, you can make a boat out of it.

So needle nose pliers, duct tape, and the cordless electric drill. All great tools! But not quite the best, in my opinion. No, I believe the best tool ever invented was the ear plug. Not only can you salvage your hearing when working with other loud tools, you can also silence your kids, screaming babies, wives, husbands, bosses, pesky neighbors, etc. Peace of mind is worth its weight in foam. That's what I always say!
