Sweet! I get to answer first! My favorite children's bedtime story (by a longshot) is Julia Donaldson's The Gruffalo. I read it as if the characters of the story all have an English accent. My wife swears I sound like a pirate, though.

"Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. This story book has so much history for my children, my son in particular dating back over 15 years. My son even bought it for ME recently when he deployed to remind me that he will Love Me forever! This story is relevant for all age kids, even grown."as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be"

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Jack enjoys it and I always get a little something new from it when I read it.

The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown, the story of a young bunny who announces he wants to run away and his mother's explanations of just how far she will go to find him. I thought of this story recently when John and I went to visit our oldest son and his wife in Saudi Arabia! @Lynn Miller, Love You Forever was also a favorite. The boys used to say to me, "Read us the one that makes you cry!"

Good Night Moon...that was always the last of a serious of books leading to bedtime. It got to the point though that she knew that was the last one and would want me to read it multiple times.

Though we don't read it as much anymore as he's grown, Guess How Much I Love You. It always leads to plenty of "I love you daddy" and Carter making up funny "guess how much I love yous".

Thanks for all the great answers everyone! There are a few stories I haven't read and will have to pick them up. "Good Night Moon" is not one of them. I've read that at least 25,000 times. With our newborn I'm sure I'll add another 12,000 or so readings :) It is one of my favorites, though - probably top 5.

I added a new question so please take a minute to read and post your thoughts: What is the greatest tool ever invented?
