The founding and guiding principle behind Dads Inc. was and is to work with fathers from any and all socio-economic backgrounds, and we truly see dads from all walks of life. While a majority of the participating fathers are married and living with the children, many are single or divorced, either with sole or joint custody of the children. And while a majority of the fathers come from the middle income bracket, many are at or below the poverty level and just as many make more than $250,000 annually.
Approximately 55% are Caucasian, 40% are African-American, 3% are Asian-American, and 2% are Hispanic. While many of the fathers are either the primary wage-earner or part of a two-earner structure, many are also Stay-At-Home Dads, a rapidly increasing demographic in Indiana and nationwide. The overwhelming majority of the fathers are between the ages of 20-40, mostly with children 12 and under. In the unfortunate circumstance where a father or step-father is not present, uncles, grandfathers, cousins and other friends and family members (including mothers) are invited and encouraged to participate with the children.
